COME ONE, COME ALL!
Traditional karate is a great activity that not only keeps you physically active but also instills personal ethics and a sense of achievement as you work your way up to black belt. Young or old, experienced or never set foot in a dojo before, karate is for anyone and everyone.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In our Samurai program, there are a number of benefits you can look forward to including:
Total body workout. Traditional karate classes are high-aerobic workouts that use every muscle group in your body. It won’t be long before you see how martial arts improves your stamina, muscle tone, flexibility, balance and strength. So don’t be surprised if you’re sore from head to toe after your first training session!
Healthy lifestyle. Because karate trains all aspects of your body, you burn hundreds of calories in every class. Believe it or not, you’ll notice that over time, your natural eating signals become better regulated, so food cravings will disappear and you’ll eat less as a result.
Self-confidence. The karate way of life has a lot to do with goal setting, positive encouragement and respect for your values and the values of others. The greatest benefit usually reported by karate students is higher self-confidence. You become more comfortable in all types of situations – whether you’re in danger or simply performing a task outside your comfort zone — and you’ll discover that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Improved cardiovascular health. Research has found that the only real way to improve the status of the cardiovascular system is to participate in activities that stress the heart. Karate is one of them.
Weight loss. Did you know that a one-hour session of moderate intensity karate class can burn more than 500 calories?
Improved reflexes. Studies show that by participating in karate, you not only improve your reflexes while performing the sport, but also experience faster reaction times during all activities in your life. Think of the significance of this for the tasks you perform every day – like driving!
Focus and stillness. As Bruce Lee once said, behind the punches, kicks and knees, a true martial artist learns to sit with himself and see where his weaknesses are. As a martial artist, you will learn what it is to be still, challenged and focused.
Morals and values. After consistent practice, you develop “karate wisdom”. You become less impulsive and aggressive towards others. You are naturally and continually reminded of the right attitude, frame of mind, and virtues to strive for inside and outside the dojo.
Muscle tone. Karate can greatly improve the amount of muscle mass you have in your body. Why does this matter? Because the higher your muscle mass, the higher your metabolic demands, and as a result, the more calories you burn each day. Regular practice can prevent obesity and promote weight loss. High levels of muscle mass can also increase your agility, helping you avoid falls and other accidents as you age.
Better mood. Research shows that participation in a regular exercise routine is one of the best ways to improve your mood. The endorphins released into your body through physical activity can be active for as many as four hours after exercise. So karate practice is not only an excellent way to relieve stress and frustration, but it can also make you truly happier!
